We write what makes your day.
Who risks their lives for the people? Who defends and protects our nation? Who keeps the people safe? Our law enforcement does! Police officers are a staple with keeping us, and our community safe. Thus, we the people should appreciate them. We do so with National Police Week! National Police Week is a great way to show our gratitude and application to officers who have died in the force and the ones who continue to serve us today.
This remembrance all started back in 1962. The president at the time was Mr. John F Kennedy. He decided to make an official announcement regarding the remembrance and celebration of law enforcement to be celebrated May 14 through May 20. Many officers, students and communities gather around Washington D.C to celebrate. There was also a memorial service for officers that have passed in the line of duty, blue candles would be passed out for their sacrifice, this was not enforced until 1982. It started off as people coming together at Senate Park. It is estimated that there were about 120 people gathered. Throughout time more people gathered around and celebrated which has been known to become National Police Week. Everyone around the world has been known to celebrate.
Law enforcement does many things for our people. They keep us and our community safe, but how? Law enforcement keeps the community safe and taken care of, and makes sure that everything and everyone is intact. Such as monitoring our neighborhoods to make sure that everyone is far from danger. Officers also protect the public from bad acts, such as criminals. They try their best to keep dangerous people and things away from the public; such as gangs, thieves, human traffickers and more. The officers truly enforce the laws created, which help everyone get along better and be a happier community.
If you're wondering, “How can I celebrate National Police Week?” you could simply write a letter to your local police station, or even the department. You could even send a donation, like a fruit basket, water, chips, or money! Maybe even making and sending a class project or inviting them to your school. You can also attend memorial services for the officers that have died and been injured. You can do this by keeping up with your local police departments website, where they upload services which are held. Even something verbally, just a simple “thank you” would 100% be appreciated by any officer. There are countless ways (some not listed) to support our local law enforcement, if you get the opportunity make sure you do so during the week. Even thanking them out of the week would be cherished by them.
Our community is extremely lucky to have police officers. We should show our gratitude for the Law Enforcement by taking part in celebrating National Police Week. We encourage you to show your gratitude to our police officers and your respect to officers who are no longer here with us.
