PREMIERE LEAGUE RECAP

As the Premier League season comes to an end and the champion is crowned, we look back to all that happened throughout the season and the main things that happened.

Transfer news:

To begin the season, striker Erling Haaland would transfer to Manchester City from Dortmund for 51 million euros while following that with a 45 million pound contract over five years. This transfer would prove to be beneficial for Manchester City.

João Felix would be the next big transfer to Chelsea from Athletico Madrid for 126 million euros. Chelsea would proceed to continue their down year and the first month he got there they would score one goal in the whole month which was scored by João Felix.

There were also some smaller ones like Enzo Fernandez for 121 million and Navas loaned to Nottingham Forrest with an option to buy.

World Cup break:

This year the 2022 World Cup was in Qatar and to avoid dying of heat stroke, they played it during the fall. So for the first time the Premier League had to stop midway through for the players to go to the World Cup. The break lasted a month and disrupted the focus of some teams and they fell off from the top.

Headlines:

Haaland will start off this section by having a record breaking start to the Premier League by scoring the most goals in a Premier League season shattering the previous record. He led the team to the top of the table and are in a tight title race.

Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world in December by being released by Manchester United and signing with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. His production had been slowly going down to the point where he got benched by Manchester United and by Portugal in the World Cup. It is starting to show that he is aging and not the same as he used to.

Chelsea also made headlines during transfer windows spending a record breaking 323 million euros in the month of January alone and 600 million euros throughout the entire season. All this spent through January and right after that they would go on a massive losing stretch. They would only score one goal in February and fall from sixth to eleventh in the table.

Title race:

The two teams in the title race for months are Manchester City and Arsenal. Arsenal had been a surprise while coming from Europa League to title race was certainly a big jump. Mike Arteta (conveniently used to be Pep’s assistant) had turned the young squad around but has not been keeping up lately. The two matchups between Manchester City have been blowouts losing 4-1 both times in key matches. On the other side Man City have had a great run in all competitions so far being in the FA Cup final and playing for the Champions league final. Striker Erling Haaland and midfielder Kevin De Bruyne have been a fantastic duo with the best offense in the league. Arsenal would manage to drop points in crucial games and Manchester City would win the league three games before the end of the season.

That wraps up the 2022 Premier League campaign with all the ups and downs of teams and their stories. Hopefully next season will be even more exciting and thrilling just like this one.
